![]() It is only about 4 feet deep but the bottom is very strange, I stood up and can not explain what I was standing on, it is not sand and it is not mud. The water is dark which some found "creepy" but there is nothing in the water that can hurt you. ![]() Also you can stay in for as little time as you feel comfortable. You don't have to get off the boat and into the water, several people on our boat stayed in and just watched. You must be able to swim to take part, while in the water you want to tread water the whole time. There are a lot of great excursions that we did while on our vacation but this one I found to be the most interesting because it is so rare and unique. The more movement and splashing you did the brighter the water got. (Bahamas, Puerto Rico & Indonesia are the other 3) We were able to swim in the water and our bodies literally glowed with movement while in the water. From what we were told there are only 4 places in the world that you can experience this and Jamaica is ranked as the #1 place. It is a night time excursion as it must be dark to see this wondrous event. It is one of the most interesting things I have ever experienced. We visited the Luminous Lagoon while on vacation in Jamaica in April 2015. Everyone else swam, and they all got stung!! We think the boat was late after picking up/dropping off the guys sister so we went full throttle home - that was scary, it was pitch black and there were decent size waves, and if someone went overboard you'd never have seen them again! So in summary, amazing sight but don't be naive enough to believe that the same health and safety rules apply as back home!! We elected to stay in the boat and we did flag the jellyfish to other passengers (there were a lot of children) but they figured that you wouldn't be allowed in if they were jellyfish. The captain moved the boat but I could still see them, then a big one went by and I could see faint tentacles dragging behind it!! I asked again if they were sure they aren't jellyfish, and was told 'I'm not sure, no, let's hope not'. Some concerns over the tour as there were a lot of people crammed into the boat (and then we picked the guides sister up!) the lagoon is beautiful and its so strange to see it light up, however.when we stopped I could see what looked like hundreds of smoke rings pulsing in the water - I asked if they were jellyfish and was told no. Your captain is very knowledgeable and will give you all the history - fee free to engage.Īfter you have completed Luminous Lagoon it will be time to take you back to your pickup point/resort.We booked this from our hotel with nexus tours, and specifically chose it because you went from boat straight from the hotel beach (Royalton) rather than getting a bus. ![]() It is said that the water will make you look 10 years younger. Get your cameras ready to take photos of the fishes as they pass by with a glow! Be sure to take your swimsuits and towels along with you in case you wish to take a short swim. At the end you will board your boat and set out for a 1 hour adventure. You will also be feted briefly with age old Jamaican dance moves - a mix of the African and British dance cultures. As you get on the terrace you will be greeted by a Glistening Waters Representative who welcomes you and take you directly to the bar where you are served a healthy drink of rum punch or fruit punch (take your pick). The tour will take you up the northern coastline - drive time is about 35mins to the Luminous Lagoon. As soon as that is done then you will be seated and ready to head out on your journey. Kindly present your voucher to your tour guide verification. You are greeted at your hotel lobby/pickup point for this amazing experience.
